New Horizons

There is a line from a poem I read at school that lives with me still, that sums up for me the desire to look further, find out, explore more - the endless curiosity for what else is out there:

Yet all experience is an arch wherethro'

Gleams that untravell'd world whose margin fades

For ever and forever when I move. (from Ulysses, Alfred, Lord Tennyson)

The more you do, the more you discover there is to do.

The more you know, the more you realise you don't know!

And I have been glad of this character trait in me over the last couple of months, as the fickle voluntary sector funding meant my job was made redundant and I considered what to do next. Setting up my own business is something I had always resisted, preferring the comfort of someone else having the ultimate responsibility, however illusory.

So I find myself having all sorts of new experiences. I bought a domain name, was very proud of myself...and then realised I should have bought hosting and emails and SEO along with it. (SEO?!) I have been to Business Gateway seminars and had moments of, "ohh...hadn't thought of that". I have built a website, not quite from scratch thanks to the various online 'idiot-proof' tools available.

I have peered through a wee arch and discovered an "untravell'd world" - to me, anyway - and I have enjoyed the excursion.

I am grateful for the people with whom I have shared a little of this new journey, who have encouraged me or offered me work already. It has made the sense of being so exposed more bearable and opened up another wee arch, through with I can see possibilities for this next journey.
